Yama Hiruko
Overview
Description
This region focuses on subsistence agriculture in lower altitudes and pastoral farming in higher altitudes, with a large focus on medical herbs for use across the nearby regions. Barley, meat, dairy and potatoes seem to be the most commonly grown in this region for consumption, with animals such as llamas, alpacas, sheep and cattle used for their meat and wool to spin and create weather-resistant clothing, using natural gems from the region to create elegant jewelry and accessories.
While the direct neighbors are their most common customers for medical herbs, the kingdom does supply across the land to all regions should they request it.
The abyssals of this region follow the traditional ways of life, focusing on nature and having a give/take relationship with the land. While the lower regions are more developed, having a city and shops, homes and a trade route, the region doesn’t have a high focus on money, having a much higher priority on trade. Of course they do have money, but they use it for supplies rather than wealth, buying from nearby regions.
The region is highly packed with culture ranging from art, such as sculptures and paintings, dances, chants and songs, as well as dramas and operas. Most instruments used are hand crafted within the region, and are often passed down within families and are made unique, reflecting the ancestors who crafted them. Each family knows their ansestory and very few leave the region to start a life elsewhere.
Around mid-August the region goes through the harvest season, which lasts until early October. They host a large celebration in early August to welcome in the season, the early mornings are spent lighting fires in the temples and praying to the Gods and Watcher for a good harvest. Afternoons are spent reminiscing on the year and previous harvest and being thankful for those around. At evening and night they dance and sing and celebrate with neighbors and friends.
It’s not uncommon to see their royal participating in daily activities around the kingdom, helping out and taking part in disputes if needed, and is not treated as any higher than the rest, but they do turn to him for aid. The region only holds the gods and watchers as a higher status.
Seeing festivals and parties around the city is not uncommon, some lasting as long as 48 hours, especially after a good harvest season. These parties could be hoested for a variety of reasons, such as birthdays, weddings, or even Celebrations of Life.
The Watcher of the Land
Mercury rarely returns to the land outside of harvest seasons. He appears to join the celebrations and enjoy the gifts bestowed in his temple.
While he does not control the health of the land, his body does reflect it, with the kintsugi of his body appearing duller and lessened if the land is unhealthy, while looking fuller and brighter when the land is firtile. None alive have seen his watcher form, but stories and myths passed through generations all tell of it bringing famine and death to the land.
